UAE e-invoicing rules: Key deadlines for businesses in 2026 and 2027
FTA continue to explain implementation requirements, connection procedures and conditions across the UAE.
UAE businesses with annual revenue of $13.6 million (AED 50 million) or more must appoint an accredited service provider (ASP) by October 30 and implement e-invoicing by January 1 2027, according to the Federal Tax Authority (FTA).
Companies below the $13.6 million threshold must appoint a provider by March 31 2027 and complete implementation by July 1 2027. Late compliance attracts an administrative penalty of $1,361 (AED 5,000) for each month or part of a month of delay.
Large businesses face October deadline
FTA requirements place the first compliance obligation on companies with annual revenue at or above $13.6 million. Those businesses must select and appoint an accredited service provider by October 30.
January 1 2027 is the mandatory implementation date for the same revenue group. Businesses need to complete provider contracting, technical integration and the required procedures through EmaraTax, the FTA’s digital tax services platform.
FTA guidance calls for companies to complete these steps ahead of the legal dates. Provider selection represents the first operational requirement. Contracting and integration follow before businesses complete the relevant EmaraTax procedures.
Companies need to allocate sufficient preparation time for provider selection, integration work and the required digital procedures before mandatory activation.
Smaller companies move to July 2027 implementation
Businesses with annual revenue below $13.6 million receive a later compliance window. March 31 2027 is the deadline to appoint an accredited service provider.
July 1 2027 is the final date for those businesses to implement the e-invoicing system. Phased implementation separates companies by annual revenue and gives smaller operators additional time before mandatory adoption.
FTA testing during the pilot phase assessed integration procedures, user experience and readiness among participating parties. Authorities used the pilot to assess system readiness before mandatory implementation begins.
FTA teams have also been running physical awareness events across the UAE and virtual sessions for businesses. Sessions cover categories subject to the system, connection procedures, implementation conditions and activation through EmaraTax.
Monthly penalties apply to missed e-invoicing deadlines
UAE legislation imposes a $1,361 administrative penalty for each month or part of a month of implementation delay.
FTA guidance confirms that failure to appoint an accredited service provider within the prescribed deadline also falls within the penalty provisions.
Businesses face operational requirements before mandatory implementation. Provider appointment comes first, followed by contracting, integration and completion of the required EmaraTax procedures.
FTA compliance activity has focused on helping companies complete those stages before enforcement dates arrive. A September 2026 meeting in Dubai brought together accredited service providers, businesses subject to the system, FTA officials and technical experts.
Participants received information on provider selection, legal requirements and the process for joining the system. Companies also received access to providers during the meeting, supporting selection before the first deadline.
EmaraTax procedures form part of business onboarding
FTA instructions require affected businesses to review applicable legislation, procedures and technical guidance before implementation. EmaraTax handles the relevant digital tax procedures connected with onboarding.
Businesses must select an appropriate accredited service provider, complete contracting and integration, and follow the prescribed procedures on EmaraTax.
FTA awareness sessions continue to explain implementation requirements, connection procedures and conditions across the UAE. Virtual sessions also give companies access to guidance without attending physical events.
January 1 2027 will bring mandatory implementation for businesses at or above the $13.6 million revenue threshold.
July 1 2027 will bring mandatory implementation for companies below that level.
